About the Album
The dandelion is a plant we are all familiar with; it adorns meadows and fields and goes through several stages of development until its ripe seeds are carried off by the wind to be scattered across the landscape. The Dandelion Quintett takes its name from the flower and has also adopted some of its qualities. The woodwind quintet combines virtuosity and joy of playing with natural ease to create a brightly colored soundscape. The pieces assembled on the debut album Windspiel are representative of the ensemble’s repertoire: classic composers of new music – specifically, György Ligeti and Samuel Barber – meet experimental and inspiring contemporary composers, namely Simon Popp, Ralph Heidel and Henrik Ajax. Past meets present in the certainty that we will be hearing a lot more from the Dandelion Quintett in future.
About Dandelion Quintett
In 2018, Éva Szabados (flute), Miriam Hanika (oboe), Maximilian Strutynski (clarinet), Arturas Gelusevicius (bassoon) and Dorothea Bender (horn) got together in Munich and founded the Dandelion Quintett to pursue their common passion for chamber music. The woodwind quintet’s focus lies on the exploration of new musical approaches and bringing them into dialogue with other art forms. In 2019, the ensemble was awarded the first prize at the Bucharest International Music Competition “ars ventus” and took part in the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition in Copenhagen. Since then, the ensemble has been performing regularly at venues in Germany and abroad.
