The jack-of-all-trades Peter Herbert prefers to play in a duo rather than alone. Wolfgang Mitterer, on the other hand, meanders between classical music, pop, electronica, new music and brutalism. According to Peter Herbert, he first became aware of Mitterer’s brilliant playing style at a concert by the legendary band The Pat Brothers (Linda Sharock/Wolfgang Puschnig/Wolfgang Reisinger/Wolfgang Mitterer). Since then, various collaborations arose but forty years had to pass for the actual studio album. So, a "debut": Quiet Riots tells a story of a friendship based upon mutual admiration and respect. Jazz meets electronics, improvisation meets classics, acoustic bass meets prepared piano and electronics. The fingerprints of the musicians are unmistakable. A must for aficionados and those who may yet become one. |

Since 2003 Peter Herbert has been working and living in Paris and Vienna after 16 years in NYC and plays an average of 100 concerts a year with about 100.000 miles of annual traveling distances in precorona-times. As a much in demand ’sideman’ he collaborated in the past with musicians like Marc Copland/John Abercrombie Quartett, Bobby Previte's "The Horse", John Clark Octet, Robin Eubanks 'Mental Images’, or Marcel Khalife. His work has been well documented on well over 180 CD-recordings (incl. Paul Simon) Peter Herbert is also a versatile composer with works for various orchestras and chamber groups like the ensemble plus, SOV, absolute ensemble in NYC, a recent work is his opera ‘Trans Maghreb’ for the Bregenzer Festspiele 2014. He established his own Internet-based label Aziza Music in 1999 (www.azizamusic.com). Since 2007 Herbert has been teaching bass, improvisation and composition at the JIM at the Anton-Bruckner Privat University in Linz and recently started curating the strenge Kammer at Vienna’s Porgy&Bess. |

Wolfgang Mitterer |

Wolfgang Mitterer studied organ and composition in Vienna at the Academy of Music and the performing Arts, and in Sweden at the Stockholm Studio of Electronic Music. The tremendous intensity in the texture of Mitterer ́s music and his radicalism and intransigence challenge the attentiveness and receptivity of his audience. He composed works for festivals, organizers and ensembles such as Musica Strasbourg, Casa da Musica Porto, Elbphilharmony, Philharmony Luxembourg and Cologne, Wiener Festwochen, Musica viva Munich, Steirischer Herbst, Donaueschinger Musiktage, Klangforum Vienna, ORF Symphony Orchestra, Bavarian Broadcast Orchestra, Musikfabrik Cologne, Friburg Baroque Orchestra, Klangforum Vienna, Ensemble Phace and many more. Mitterer also played with many formations at jazz festivals and appeared as an organist throughout Europe. He has received numerous awards for his work, such as the Music Prize of the City of Vienna, the German Record Critics' Prize and the Austrian Film Prize twice in the music category. |
